HISTORY: Herod is the result of a Rend experiment to create a Human/Rend hybrid.
The Rend scientist, K’cog, hoped to create a species that generated massive amounts of psionic energy but without the ability to utilize it. The Rend had discovered a way to absorb psionic energy from other sentient beings to augment their own already formidable abilities. If the experiment succeeded, he would then have high yield breed of “cattle” on which his people could then feed on.
The experiment was partially successful. The experimental subject that eventually becomes Herod was artificially birthed and subjected to an accelerated ageing process. He was shown no compassion or warmth, no companionship or love. Only minimal interaction took place to instruct and examine.
While it appeared his test subject was exactly what K’cog desired, a creature that generated tremendous amount of psionic energy without the ability to harness it, he had been fooled. The experimental subject was not only hiding his rather considerable abilities, but also suppressing his true psionic power levels.
Without warning the test subject attacked K’cog with staggering strength and power. Had he had more experience using his powers he may have bested K’cog. But the scientist’s superior ability allowed him to overcome his creation. Unwilling to destroy his creation K’cog transmogrified him to stone like substance and left his body on earth.
Thousands of years later the Vindicators were formed from the descendants of K’cogs other experiments. Their group split into two separate factions. The Vindicators led by Vector and the Modus led by Fyn. Displeased with the imbalance of power Fyn sought out a way to counter Vectors power. Learning of the Human/Rend experiment from the Domus computers, Fyn set out to find and resurrect the test subject. He believed he would be a simple creature, a weapon he could manipulate and use against Vector.
But he was wrong. The reanimated experimental subject immediately took control of Modus and it members and none of them had the power to stop him. He chose the name Herod for himself believing the name of a king known for taking the lives of innocents would intimidate his foes.
But Fyn’s plan was not a complete failure. Herod now believes that all that was K’cog’s rightfully belongs to him. He believes that Vector has somehow falsely taken his “inheritance” (the Domus) and used it to consolidate a power base to rule the world. He is now determined to defeat Vector and re-take his birthright, a concept Fyn has been known to reinforce.
